Creative Content Marketer, Screenwriter, Essayist
I am an Orlando-based writer with strong research and editing skills. Since finishing my MFA in nonfiction writing at the University of Central Florida, I have held full-time writing roles in the hospitality and non-profit spaces. In these roles, I've written everything from menu descriptions to entertaining blogs to white papers to longform magazine articles featuring resilient families around the world who have transformed their lives and communities. I also am a screenwriter whose feature scripts "By the Dashboard Light" and "Mile Zero" have placed in the top 100 of international competitions. Screenwriting has given me an opportunity to strengthen my comedy skills and has taught me how to mirror natural speech in everything that I write.

JOURNALIST • AUTHOR • WRITER • EDITOR
I am an experienced nonfiction editor, published author, and award-winning journalist who provides editing and content writing services to English language clients worldwide. I understand the impact of words and creative problem-solving to help writers perfect their work and meet clients' needs in their authentic voice and brand. With a keen editor's eye, I pride myself on my resourcefulness and ability to translate complex issues into powerful and clear language. I appreciate deadlines, too, and I meet them. I'm currently a staff reporter with U.S. Right to Know, covering the commercial determinants of health (CDoH) for a new project, Healthwire. I also teach journalism at Lake Forest College. My work has involved writing and editing everything from articles and book manuscripts to speeches and blogs. I provide nonfiction book proposal and manuscript critiques as well as one-on-one consulting, copy editing, proofreading, line editing, substantive (heavy) editing, and developmental editing. My own publishing experience includes co-authoring a triple memoir — “Three Wishes: A True Story of Good Friends, Crushing Heartbreak, and Amazing Luck on Our Way to Love and Motherhood” (Little, Brown & Co.) — that was dubbed “A Tome of the Brave" by Oprah's O Magazine and published in five other countries. I draw on a decades-long journalism career to expertly handle a wide range of genres and topics and keep projects on track for my clients. As a reporter for The Washington Post, Boston Globe, and Miami Herald, I covered everything from politics, education, parenting, and plane crashes to hurricanes, hackers, and neuroscience, and I was one of 10 international journalists selected for an MIT Knight Science Journalism Fellowship. I've freelanced for NPR, The Economist, National Geographic News, Slate, This Old House, and Boston Magazine, among many others, as well as academic institutions and nonprofits including Northwestern University and Boston University. Clients have included WebMD, Aha Media Group, Curmudgeon Group, Talentfoot, Callisto Media, Book Launchers, Greenleaf Book Group, Pew Research, MIT, Northwestern University, Boston University, Weill Cornell Medicine, The Trustees (Massachusetts), and American Cancer Society, among others. Memberships include the Society of Professional Journalists, Editorial Freelancers Association, and I am represented by the Denise Shannon Literary Agency in New York City.

Storyteller. Copywriter. Content Creator.
For a copywriter, it's important to know how to tell a story. Yet, it's just as important to understand how stories have the power to sell a product, explain a concept, re-energize a brand, or inspire fans. That's why I've been telling stories throughout my career. I’m a versatile, conceptual writer with experience in creating compelling, benefit-focused words, ads, product descriptions, direct mail, radio, web pages, press releases, and more. My work has sold products by telling stories, engaging audiences, building brands, connecting with collectors, and even tickling a funny bone or two. I've told the fascinating stories of historic coins from around the world, from worn U.S. Mint nickels that came to symbolize the Old West, to rare numismatic finds that today are worth thousands. Along with coins, I've dramatized licensed products like sports keepsakes, campy Elvis collectibles, fun tributes to Disney favorites, as well as kids’ cereals, pet products, apparel, home and office decor and functional items, and more. I’ve learned that every product or brand has the potential to become a star. I've successfully sold just about everything, working in-house, onsite or remotely. Whether your projects are big or small, focused on classic packaged goods, B-B outreach, heartwarming home accents, coveted collectibles, or luxurious consumer indulgences, I can help. I'm always interested in trying something new. Let’s talk, and discover how I can help make your brand or product shine. To see some of what I’ve been writing lately, please take a look at just a few of my samples Just click on the sample's title to view. Words have taken me places and given me opportunities I never imagined. And it all started with a 7th-grade journalism class. I have experience writing all types of content including web copy, social media content, case studies, blogs, white papers, and more. I'm a strategic storyteller who loves sharing success stories of people and organizations. I have broad communications experience in corporate, nonprofit, and freelance writing with national clips in Entrepreneur and United Airline's magazine. I have an entrepreneurial spirit and started a hyperlocal site, Houston on the Cheap. I sold it in 2018 after publishing content for 9 years reaching 10+ million pageviews. My site was much more than a calendar -- but also a community. Readers shared how my site changed their life -- like the single mom who wrote how she wouldn't have had such an amazing summer with her kids if not for ideas from Houston on the Cheap.

B2B Content Creation | Digital Marketing | Market Research | Lead Generation
“You ought to be a teacher,” my mom told me when I was a kid. I love to teach… to impart knowledge. And I love to learn new things. With marketing, I can engage my love of learning, identifying a company’s prospective customers, and figuring out how to reach them. With marketing communications I can employ my teaching skills, educating prospective clients about the merits and advantages of my company’s products and services and how they can help them achieve their goals. Please view my portfolio to see examples of how I've helped prospects understand my companies' offerings.
