Creative Content Manager at Lewis Communications
After graduating from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Journalism degree, I decided to follow an unconventional path and write music instead of news. I was lucky enough to nab a licensing deal, and not long after, a publishing and artist contract with a small label in Nashville. In the meantime, I was freelancing, writing social copy and blogs, and side-hustling my little heart out. The stereotype of a “broke musician” exists for a reason. I was fortunate to end up with songs placed in TV movies, commercials, and trailers in the U.S. and internationally. And although I continue to write, perform, and produce my own music for fun, I’ve bookmarked that chapter of my life, for now. For me, creativity has always about connecting with people. Whether it was in a song, a blog, or a headline, or a video, the goal is always the same – understand the person you’re talking to and speak their language. Empathy is king. In 2014, I leaped into the e-commerce world, and soon, I was fully immersed in digital marketing and persuasive copywriting. In search of more topical diversity, I moved on from e-commerce into advertising where I snagged a position writing content and copy for Lewis Communications. That’s where I am now, as a Creative Content Manager. My role is a hybrid of creative content direction, concepting for videos, blogs, and social campaigns, developing an overall content marketing strategy based on performance metrics. And from time to time, I handle some proofing and editing to help keep junior writers on brand. With every blog I write, I work closely work the designer to concept the images that will elevate the content. In videos, I write the concept, the script, and I handle the interviews. Then I work closely with the editor to fine-tune the final product. On social, I work mostly in concepting and strategy that works together with the overall content strategy. I also proof junior writers copy to keep social on brand. And in case you are wondering, I do not have a stance on the Oxford comma. I am Switzerland. Whatever the client says, goes.

Content Creator & Data-based Storyteller
I’m seeking a role that utilizes the communication and design skills that I’ve already honed in marketing, public relations and journalism. I’m currently seeking a company to grow with using my writing, editing and storytelling skills I have honed as a newspaper editor, publicist and marketing coordinator. Currently, I am a newspaper editor and in this role, I am responsible for planning, overseeing and executing the creation of all content for our daily digital newsletter and monthly print newspaper. Our content has a large focus on data, such as communicating demographic trends using census data, establishing price changes using real estate data and breaking down complicated budget and bond data. I plan, edit and delegate all of the content for print and online. I am also responsible for writing between 20-40 stories per month. I love the act of data-based storytelling and crafting compelling messages using proven methods. Previous to Community Impact Newspaper, I served as a marketing coordinator for Kevia, a sustainable jewelry and fashion company, and JourneeBox, a subscription box that I directly oversaw the launch for. In that role, I interpreted analytics to implement strategic marketing plans, designed web and email content, and sourced products from vendors — as well as designing the packaging and products themselves. I crafted all of the messages for the brand's presence, such as the website, e-mails, printed materials and more. I also gained firsthand experience with the worldwide shipping landscape through our use of vendors throughout Asia and Africa. I learned about customs processes, freight options and logistics. As a publicist, I was responsible for assessing a client’s outreach goal and crafting pitches around that goal, as well as finding aligned media and speaking. I have also “ghostwrote” for clients in many publications including MindBodyGreen, the Portland Business Journal, the Puget Sound Business Journal and more. I was also responsible for finding aligned media and speaking opportunities to tell my client's messages. In this position, I also managed social media, curated graphic designs and wrote copy. Before public relations, I was the features/lifestyle editor at the San Marcos Daily Record, a newspaper that publishes five editions per week. I was responsible for daily pagination using InDesign, managing interns, overseeing the creation of magazines, managing social media and other editorial responsibilities. I graduated from Texas State University in communications, with an emphasis in journalism, and a minor in sociology. Before my position at the paper, I worked two unpaid internships for two separate radio stations, KTSW 89.9 and NPR’s KUT 90.5, during my senior year. For both stations, I worked as a news reporter and produced daily content. I am passionate, hardworking, friendly and committed.
