Camille Sylvain (formerly, Thompson)

Professional Writer and MARCOM Pro

United States

With more than 25 years of experience in writing, PR, marketing communications, graphic design, social media, photography, and page design, I’ve built a career around telling great stories and helping organizations communicate clearly and creatively. Writing has always been at the center of my work—from feature articles and marketing campaigns to brand messaging, social content, and editorial projects.

As a seasoned remote professional, I’m comfortable juggling creative and strategic challenges, whether that means shaping compelling content, editing complex material, or developing marketing communications that connect with the right audience. I enjoy collaborating with teams, but I’m just as happy diving in independently to bring ideas to life.

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a wide range of publications and organizations, including the Detroit Free Press, LiveNation (Detroit), Avanti Press (Detroit), Boxing Times (Los Angeles), CityLink (Chicago), PRSA Detroit, CAM Magazine (Detroit), CSE Magazine (Chicago), and High Performing Buildings (NYC).

Consider this. Does anyone actually take the time to read their user manual before using their new camera or other electronic device? Not surprisingly, the answer is often a resounding, NO. According to Chuck Westfall, assistant director of the technical information department for Canon, Inc., "There's no question that people are averse to reading the full instruction manuals - that's a given these days."

Mind the Gap: Tips for Creating One Voice from Multiple Generations

I was born in the late 1970's, and grew up in the early 80's at a time when kids walked home from elementary school, by themselves without cell phones and without a safety plan in place. We were born to be independent and fearless. We learned to trust or not trust adults by trial and error.

PRSA Detroit - PR, Marketing and MarCom, Oh My!

I recently received my Master's Degree in Communication (not PR or Marketing Communications, Communication) from Purdue University, and I'm still confused about the whole PR vs. Marketing vs. MarCom thing.
