Laura Aebi

Content Creator & Data-based Storyteller

I’m seeking a role that utilizes the communication and design skills that I’ve already honed in marketing, public relations and journalism. I’m currently seeking a company to grow with using my writing, editing and storytelling skills I have honed as a newspaper editor, publicist and marketing coordinator. Currently, I am a newspaper editor and in this role, I am responsible for planning, overseeing and executing the creation of all content for our daily digital newsletter and monthly print newspaper. Our content has a large focus on data, such as communicating demographic trends using census data, establishing price changes using real estate data and breaking down complicated budget and bond data. I plan, edit and delegate all of the content for print and online. I am also responsible for writing between 20-40 stories per month. I love the act of data-based storytelling and crafting compelling messages using proven methods. Previous to Community Impact Newspaper, I served as a marketing coordinator for Kevia, a sustainable jewelry and fashion company, and JourneeBox, a subscription box that I directly oversaw the launch for. In that role, I interpreted analytics to implement strategic marketing plans, designed web and email content, and sourced products from vendors — as well as designing the packaging and products themselves. I crafted all of the messages for the brand's presence, such as the website, e-mails, printed materials and more. I also gained firsthand experience with the worldwide shipping landscape through our use of vendors throughout Asia and Africa. I learned about customs processes, freight options and logistics. As a publicist, I was responsible for assessing a client’s outreach goal and crafting pitches around that goal, as well as finding aligned media and speaking. I have also “ghostwrote” for clients in many publications including MindBodyGreen, the Portland Business Journal, the Puget Sound Business Journal and more. I was also responsible for finding aligned media and speaking opportunities to tell my client's messages. In this position, I also managed social media, curated graphic designs and wrote copy. Before public relations, I was the features/lifestyle editor at the San Marcos Daily Record, a newspaper that publishes five editions per week. I was responsible for daily pagination using InDesign, managing interns, overseeing the creation of magazines, managing social media and other editorial responsibilities. I graduated from Texas State University in communications, with an emphasis in journalism, and a minor in sociology. Before my position at the paper, I worked two unpaid internships for two separate radio stations, KTSW 89.9 and NPR’s KUT 90.5, during my senior year. For both stations, I worked as a news reporter and produced daily content. I am passionate, hardworking, friendly and committed.

Jeff Raines

Freelance Journalist, Farmer, Outdoorsman, and Entrepreneur

I am a freelance writer and carpenter currently based out of Roanoke, Va. I grew up in rural southwest Virginia in the Appalachian Mountains as an avid outdoorsman, rock climber, backpacker, and eventually traveler. I have great interest in environmental issues, organic farming, clean energy initiatives, and conservation efforts. I will never shy away from any opportunity to travel, meet new people and study new cultures. I learned Spanish over six months in 2018 studying conservation biology, setting up a hydroponic farming system, and monitoring fish populations in Costa Rica. In August 2019, I spent three weeks in Argentina through an internship with Guayakí studying yerba mate culture, fair trade practices, and biodynamic and organic farming methods. I have recently returned from a cultural immersion experience in Peru sponsored by Appalachian Gear Company. While in Peru, I spent time in rural communities observing their farming methods, visiting world heritage sites, and backpacking through the Andes. I am a creative and dedicated writer with bylines in local, national, and international publications such as the Washington Post, Associated Press, San Francisco Chronicle and Chicago Tribune. My journalistic endeavors and mindset translate well into marketing, blog and social media posts. I enjoy nothing more than weaving a narrative with a purpose. I can work and write in less than ideal situations and approach stories from unconventional viewpoints, allowing me unique experiences as a reporter and writer. Outside of travel and writing, I am working on my business plan for a small farm and composting operation with an emphasis on sustainability and traditional farming methods, alongside community engagement and enrichment.

Amy Bartlett

Editor / Writer

A 20 year veteran of Marketing, Media, and Ministry, Amy Bartlett has built a career on finding and delivering the story -- especially the story of God in contemporary society. Graduating from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and serving as an editor for Guideposts in New York City, Bartlett relocated to her home state of California serving independent clients for nearly a decade (e.g., Rhapsody [now Napster], Purpose Driven Publishing, KLOVE/Air1, Barbour Books, etc.), and directing children’s arts education and drama therapy programs for North Coast Repertory Theater. In 2008, Bartlett focused efforts exclusively in Marketing and Advisory Management for San Diego’s New Venture Christian Fellowship (continuing through early 2020 as adjunct/consultant), and served 4+ years as Marketing & Digital Communications Director for Jessup University in Northern California. Having now settled in the Southeast (Hilton Head / Savannah area), Bartlett recently returned to writing / editing full time, and maintains "multi-passionate" pursuits in the Arts, including music and photography. Of these varied outlets, Bartlett states, “It’s impossible to pick a favorite format, but it’s impossible not to focus on a single Reason. My job is to hold a microphone to whatever the language, tool, or project, directly or indirectly fulfilling a modern day translation of the Great Commission, communicating through all things, Jesus.” For contact, more info, and "beyond writing," visit amybartlett.org.
