Alison Kentish

Freelance Science and Health Journalist

Journalist. Researcher. Storyteller. Listener. I have worked in television, radio, online and print journalism. While I have anchored live television newscasts and other programs, I am a field reporter at heart. I have gone out to sea with Saint Lucian fishers as part of a reporting series on the impact of rising ocean temperatures. I have spoken to protesting indigenous leaders on the fringes of international climate meetings. I spent a week interviewing storm survivors in Dominica on the disaster beat and I have spent many hours in court and the living rooms of grieving families, as I covered crime and justice. I believe in the beauty and power of words and have always thought that even the most complex, technical issues can be engaging and impactful for a mass audience, if we ensure that people - their lives and their experiences - are at the centre of these topics. My first degree is in Criminal Justice and I completed the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism's Master of Arts degree in Science and Health Journalism with a focus on climate change, public and mental health. I won a Columbia thesis award for my investigation into mangrove restoration for building climate resilience. I have reported for Helen Television in Saint Lucia, Latin-American television network teleSUR, the Inter Press Service’s Caribbean Climate Wire and AlertNet, the humanitarian news arm of Reuters. I have also conducted journalism training and hosted panel discussions for the United Nations Office for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, the UNESCO Office in Saint Lucia and the International Institute for Sustainable Development. I am based in the eastern US and looking forward to a new round of reporting on climate, health, science and justice . I am available for commissions. Please contact me at alikentish@gmail.com.

Matthew Mead

Content Writer/Games Journalist

I'm a self-deprecating Englishman currently living in Michigan with my lovely wife. I'm a gamer first and foremost and doing everything I can to convert my better half. Our cooperative gaming résumé extends as far as Diablo 3 at the moment and we're still going strong. I was never the smartest kid growing up. Average in all things was about the best I could hope for. But then I developed a passion for the written word. I started to understand the power inherent in language and I realised I could work words like a spell to make all kinds of incredible, magical things happen. I've ghostwritten for hundreds of companies and I'm on a secret mission to work for companies I love, like Blizzard or the Yogscast. I believe in finding a company you love and then putting your all into working for that company. I'll keep you updated on my progress. I am open to writing opportunities, especially in fiction writing, creative writing or video gaming. Why not email me at matt.mead1@hotmail.co.uk?

Bryan Lawver

I live in LA and think too much about video games. Hire me for the latter so I can afford the former.

Maria McLeod

Creative Writer

Hi there, and thanks for visiting my creative writing portfolio. The sample clips posted here represent my work as a multi-genre writer. Although my first love, and staple, is poetry, I've also published short stories, flash fiction and monologues. I've also written and staged works of documentary theatre and collaborated on works of theater-dance, both of which involved in-depth interviewing and oral history. In terms of multi-media, I've worked as a videographer (director, shooter, editor) and interviewer for short documentaries. My early training and work was in journalism and public relations. I also hold a Master of Fine Arts in poetry. Not surprisingly, about half of my creative writing is interview based, or interview inspired. Currently, I work as an associate professor of journalism for Western Washington University. Fun Fact: The first person to publish my creative writing (back in the 90s!) was Eve Ensler, then co-editor of a literary journal called "Central Park." Feel free to shoot me a message if you'd like to comment or connect at Maria.McLeod@wwu.edu.
