Yvonne Lau

Yvonne Lau is a journalist and photojournalist-in-training who splits her time between Canada and China, alongside Eastern Europe and Türkiye. She is currently the Financial Post's national technology reporter, an active freelance writer and public speaker.

Her reporting, from feature stories and profiles to photo essays, examines how market forces and geopolitical and cultural currents, from the US-China AI rivalry to the global surge in defence spending, are reshaping communities worldwide.

Her bylines can be found in leading global business outlets like Fortune, Forbes, Fast Company, Rest of World, and Canada's top publications including The Logic, The Walrus, Maclean's, Broadview magazine and more. Beyond reporting, Yvonne is a regular speaker and moderator at industry events such as Web Summit and ALL IN.

Yvonne's feature story and photo essay on Uyghur exiles searching for a new life in Canada was awarded the Amnesty International Canada Media Award 2025 (Local/Alternative) and received an Honourable Mention (Portrait Photography) at the National Magazine Awards 2025. Yvonne was the 2023-2024 Asia-Pacific Foundation of Canada Media Fellow. She volunteers with the Canadian International Council, Canada's oldest think tank.
