What is a control? If you've ever read a news article or seen an advertisement about a new medication, you may have heard of placebo-controlled trials. A placebo-controlled trial is used to prove that a new medication or treatment is better at treating a target condition than nothing.
Why Clinical Trials? When new treatments are being developed, there comes a point when they must be evaluated on humans. This ensures that new treatments are both safe and effective. In the United States, human testing occurs in multiple phases called clinical trials.
What is the Scientific Method? You may not remember the science classes you took in school, but those classes probably introduced you to the scientific method. What is Sjögren's Disease? People living with Sjögren's disease know it's not just dryness. The disease causes joint pain and swelling, life-altering fatigue, small fiber neuropathy, lymphoma, tooth loss, and an inability to cry, to name a few symptoms and sequelae. Some sufferers have little to no dryness but experience disability from other other symptoms and secondary conditions.
Fungal infections are underdiagnosed and under-reported. Along with emerging resistance to medications, the lack of information is a One Health issue.
Cancer and BRCA Basics Cancer is an ever-present enemy in modern life. It is estimated that in the United States alone, 2025 will see over 2 million diagnosed cases of cancer. Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women (after skin cancer) and is second to lung cancer for cancer deaths in women.
