The man behind the Great Wheel light shows

Most artists use a brush and canvas or a pen and paper when creating great art.Gerry Hall's canvas is 175 feet tall, weighs 280,300 pounds and is composed of just under 500,000 LED lights. And his artwork has grabbed both local and national attention.

Watch out downtown Seattle, there's a new rooftop bar in town

Hotels in Seattle aren't just for an overnight stay anymore. Err - well, you can totally still do that too, of course - but we've noticed recently that one of the cooler parts of all the new hotels popping up around town are their accompanying rooftop bars. The Nest at Thompson Seattle, Frolick!

Does it feel like we just posted about a new Paseo opening in SoDo? You're right, we did. Just two months ago, owner Ryan Santwire opened the second Paseo sandwich shop down by the stadiums - and now he's expanding to the heart of the city's food scene.

Local company trains dogs to hunt truffles

I don't know about you, but it took me ages to teach my dog to sit. And six years later we're still working on stay. So truffle-hunting? I was incredulous.

Local dog competing in 2020 American Rescue Dog Show

Sometimes around the office we joke that we don't have a ton of "celebrities" here in the PNW, so we are hyper aware of when Russell Wilson, Ciara or Macklemore make ANY moves... Well, time to add Otis to the list of personalities we stalk online for life updates!

Whistler's new Winter Light Walk is Wondrous

Light installations are very IN right now. Projections, light shows, strobes - who knows whether it comes from campfire nostalgia (anyone else do the whole "flashlight-bunny-ears" schtick? ) or just flexing our tech muscles at how far we've come since those flashlight days - it feels like they're popping up everywhere.

A near perfect itinerary for 3 days in B.C.

Ahh, wintertime in the PNW. It's the time of year when we're simultaneously supposed to be invigorated and motivated for the new year (which we've still barely started, by the way), but Seasonal Affect Disorder and the months of gray ahead are becoming more and more of a sinking reality.

Cavalia's second show Odysseo comes to Seattle tonight

Running around in circles and splashing in a pool doesn't necessarily sound that interesting. But when a dozen pure white horses are doing it - it's absolutely riveting. Therein lies the allure of Cavalia's newest show, Odysseo.

Broadway's Best Musical. 2017 Tony Award Winner. 2018 Grammy Award Winner. These are all descriptions of "Dear Evan Hansen", the emotionally relatable hit musical that is Broadway's current darling. So you can imagine the excitement in the Emerald City when it was announced that it would be stopping for a brief (15 performance) run at the Paramount Theater this winter.

Photos: Seattle's historic Sam Hill mansion lists for $16 million

Sam Hill was a great American businessman, philanthropist, lawyer and advocate in the Pacific Northwest. While you may not recall his name - you probably do know his work, like the Peace Arch between the U.S. and Canada in Blaine, WA, the Maryhill Museum of Art, and Maryhill Stonehenge.

Only one salon in Seattle offers vegan eyelashes - but more should

Every single time I see any of the following words/phrases, I roll my eyes just a little: gluten-free, dairy-free, hemp, farm to table, dairy-alternative, or vegan. There are probably a lot more I could add to that list, but you get my point.

This is the only spa in the state that offers pure oxygen spa facials

Megan Sevcik began calming me down a good half hour before the spa facial I had scheduled with her for that very reason. Stuck in the Mercer Mess, I called her frantically, "I'm going to be late! I haven't moved in half an hour. Why don't we just cancel?"
