Emma McDonald

Writer, game developer and content creator

Writer, game developer and content creator based in Glasgow, Scotland. I have experience writing fiction, copywriting and creating content for a variety of different media including blogs, podcasts and social media content. Currently working at Avid Games as Product Lead on new TCG, Wild Cards. I was Live Ops Content Manager on CCG, Eerie Worlds while the game was still receiving new content. On Eerie Worlds, I planned and co-ordinated the release of all live ops content while also creating and editing most player-facing communication (news, push notifications, etc). I was also responsible for creating and maintaining the game's lore and story mode - The Grimoire. I researched and wrote most of the card backs, meaning that I spent quite a bit of time in the worlds of cryptids, ghosts and mythological beings. So while my job title may have said "Content Manager", I considered myself a bit of a Monster Hunter! I initially joined as Content Manager on Cards, the Universe and Everything, where I wrote card backs, newsletters, in-game news and also created 2 mini-games for a Halloween event. I taught for East Renfrewshire council for four years then spent three years maintaining Forbidden Planet’s subscription service, followed by a year on the communications team with the Scottish Qualifications Authority. Spent 3 years at Glasgow Film Theatre as Youth Programme Officer, working on the 15-25 programme and supporting their education work. In my personal projects, I podcast and I write fiction. First YA novel, GHOSTED, was published by Gen Z Publishing in June 2023. Before having my little girl, I streamed games on Twitch, building and maintaining a community on Discord as well as doing all of my own design and promotion of the channel. I am currently doing freelance writing work for a romance audiobook app.
