Jacob Dolinger

Climate Data Communicator | Writer | TV Meteorologist | Content Creator

A science communicator at the core, I have several years working in local news, from a remote small market in West Virginia to the largest in the country. I feel fortunate to have transitioned into my current role as the Operations Climatologist at Purdue University & NOAA's Midwestern Regional Climate Center, which allows me to play on my die-hard passion for climate data & communications. While my prior experience has largely been on-air, I do have some experience in science and technical writing, news writing, content writing, blog writing, and AP-style. I believe heavily in educating and informing diverse audiences on meteorology, climatology, climate-related issues, physical sciences, and environmental justice. Below you will find an assortment of weather and climate-related articles and technical writings. Do enjoy!

Joan Gralla

General Assignment Reporter, Newsday

I adore breaking news, excel at finding the sources to do so and spotting holes in what's presented -- hopefully improving the outcome. It’s wonderful working with such a talented group excelling in so many areas, including video and graphics. No newcomers to SEO. My hope is my public service aims, starting with my Reuters Holocaust restitution series, will appeal to you. Researching, spotting a new angle -- and then writing as simply as possible to truly explain complex problems, from global warming to COVID-19, are some of my strong suits. Curiosity always serves me well. For Reuters, where I worked most of my career, I covered many financial markets; New York, NYC and states from Maine to Virginia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Texas, reporting on all manner of policies, legislation and budgets. Breaking news with New York City's budgets was one strength. Covering 9/11 -- from the attack through the reconstruction -- later led me to report for Newsday about flawed safety gear provided often immigrant asbestos workers. For Reuters TV, I interviewed a few dozen governors, treasurers, mayors and the like; wrote companion stories; gave live reports. I've co-moderated Crain's Business Breakfast panels; spoken on journalism panels. A Loyola Law School public service fellowship was wonderful. Recently I was on "Crime Stories with Nancy Grace at 7 minutes, 29, 36, 39, 42, for example. https://omny.fm/shows/crime-stories-with-nancy-grace/loving-dad-of-3-at-sons-college-family-weekend-sho. At Reuters, I regularly led competitors covering precious metals, debt, equities and energy -- a highlight was the UN-Iraq oil-for-food talks, a lengthy assignment. My multi-year Holocaust series began when NYC axed a Swiss bank from a bond sale. Two days later that was a front page New York Times story; that wasn't the first; I've had to match them too. Local, national, such as the Wall Street Journal and Washington Post, and global media often ran my stories outlining talks between advocates, governments, museums, rail roads, banks and insurers. I also put Reuters first with the U.S. EPA's demand NYC cleanse its water with a new plant the city said cost too much. That was a bit of a merry-go-round. A recent Newsday story about stiffer rules for wastewater plants benefited from my in-depth experience reporting on this problem. So did a story on the curtailed lives of the oysters planted in New York Harbor's restoration programs. Previous stints: Securities Week, Physicians Financial News, the Research Institute of America, The Wall Street Transcript. Thank you for considering me, Joan

Lauren Brathwaite

Editorial & Content Strategist | Writer | Communications Professional

Lauren Brathwaite is an editorial and content strategist, writer, and communications professional whose work helps mission-driven organizations transform complex ideas into clear, compelling narratives that inform, influence, and inspire action. Across nearly two decades in philanthropy and the nonprofit sector, she has worked at the intersection of editorial strategy, digital publishing, thought leadership, and organizational communications, helping leaders, researchers, and practitioners connect their expertise with the audiences they serve. Most recently, Lauren served as Senior Content Editor for Candid insights at Candid, where she co-led the publication's editorial relaunch and helped shape its thought leadership strategy. She partnered with more than 60 nonprofit and foundation leaders, researchers, and subject-matter experts to develop content on philanthropy, racial equity, AI, nonprofit leadership, workforce diversity, and other issues shaping the social sector. Her work included editorial strategy, contributor development, refining executive and institutional voice, editorial planning, and translating research and organizational priorities into accessible, audience-centered content. Previously, as Content Editor for Philanthropy News Digest, Lauren's work bridged editorial leadership and digital communications. She managed newsletters, social media engagement and analytics, digital publishing, and audience-facing editorial products while reporting and writing long-form features, conducting executive interviews, and covering emerging trends across philanthropy and the nonprofit sector. Her reporting on feminist philanthropy led to an invitation to speak at the 2023 Elluminate Convening and a continuing relationship as a freelance contributor to The Giving List Women. Lauren began her career in magazine journalism and product curation, writing a weekly retail trend column for Footwear News, contributing to Condé Nast Traveler's Hot List, and researching and fact-checking items for Oprah's Favorite Things at O, The Oprah Magazine, alongside completing Macy's East's Management Development Program. She then moved into nonprofit and philanthropy sector communications at Foundation Center (now Candid), contributing to press releases, media monitoring, and enterprise web publishing before moving into editorial leadership. That progression gave her an unusually broad understanding of how communications, publishing, editorial strategy, and audience engagement work together to advance organizational goals. Earlier in her career, Lauren wrote cultural, political, and social commentary for the online publication Crasstalk, exploring issues of race, gender, politics, media, and popular culture. The archived clips included in this portfolio reflect that period of her work and the analytical voice and curiosity that continue to shape her reporting and editorial approach. Lauren holds a Bachelor of Arts in English, with a minor in Education, from Lincoln University, an HBCU, and a Master of Science in Publishing from Pace University.
